Primary Care Program Office

Primary Care

The Primary Care Program Office in Patient Care Services is responsible for the oversight of program and policy development for Primary Care in the Veterans Health Administration. VHA Primary Care strives to honor America's Veterans by providing quality and accessible primary care to all Veterans. Primary Care promotes the principle of patient-centered care that focuses on a comprehensive approach to healthcare. The intranet site is intended to serve VA staff, primarily the Primary Care staff community, providing information about primary care services, programs and initiatives, and policies.

Primary Care is the provision of integrated, accessible health care services by clinicians who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs, developing a sustained partnership with patients, and practicing in the context of family and community. (VHA Adaptation of Institute of Medicine's definition of Primary Care)
